The world-famous Stockholm Open Tennis Championship took place in November this year at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm, Sweden. Running annually since 1969, the tournament has been eagerly awaited after it had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In celebration of this exciting event, proud partner Stureplansgruppen came up with the idea of displaying an enormous inflatable tennis ball high above the famous local department store Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) in Stockholm. This was the first time ever that one of Stockholm’s most famous landmarks was utilised in this way.

The team at Glow Inflatables created a suitable spherical structure that could be tethered to the NK’s 87-metre-high steel clock tower. The installation came in two hemispherical halves which the incredible installation team at Sture secured around the steel tower and then inflated whilst in situ. Glow provided Sture with a custom-made print cover which the team then wrapped around the inflatable sphere to create a smoother, giant tennis ball effect.

The finished piece measured an impressive five metres in diameter and took pride of place on the iconic NK clock tower, visible for miles around on the Stockholm skyline for the duration of the tennis tournament. The overall effect was stunning, particularly at night as the custom installation was also illuminated.

The whole amazing construction was videoed and shared on social media, promoting both the Stockholm Open Tennis Championship and Sweden’s largest, privately owned entertainment group, Stureplansgruppen. Followers viewing this stunning collaboration were amazed and delighted in equal measure.

With the perfect combination of vision and audacity, this collaboration between Stureplansgruppen and Glow Inflatables has certainly scored an ace!
