Poor air quality is leading to a global health crisis and causing an increase in lung disease. The Canadian Lung Association aims to ensure that improvements are made with regards to air quality in tandem with increasing funding for research into associated illnesses.
To raise awareness of these important issues, Lungs in the Air was created: a giant inflatable pair of lungs designed to float in different locations around Canada.
Glow Inflatables developed the concept with artist Fezz Stenton and the team at McCann marketing services, both based in Toronto. It was remarked that Glow was the only inflatables company that they wanted to work with on this very special project. Fezz has always been interested in cutting-edge technologies and as such he was keen to explore what Glow had to offer in terms of creating a dramatic custom inflatable.
The stylised four-storey-sized pair of lungs were filled with helium to enable them to float beautifully over the chosen locations, which included Calgary and Toronto as well as the Waterfront in Halifax, Nova Scotia. With the tag line ‘See what you breathe’, visitors were encouraged to share the spectacle on social media platforms and spread the word about the importance of clean air quality and lung health.
The unusual sight of giant inflatable lungs floating in an unexpected setting certainly raised the profile of respiratory health. Comments from the public included “superb!” and “very cool!” as they learnt how their lung health was literally ‘up in the air’.
Once again, Glow Inflatables was the obvious choice for collaborating on such a high-impact inflatable artwork. The customer was extremely happy with the outcome saying, “Thank you for being such an incredible partner on this project.” It was our absolute pleasure!
